Membership Fees

Fees for membership of the International Association of Hydrogeologists for the calender year 2009 are now due for payment by 15 March 2009. Payment can be made either by cheque or preferably through the IAH website

Members who have not paid by 15 March 2009, will become non financial members of the Association. This information will be supplied to the IAH Secretariat in the UK and further services will be stopped - this includes copies of the Hydrogeology Journal, and the National Chapter Newsletters. Payment of the yearly fee after 15 March 2009 will re-activate membership, but will also attract a late fee of $10. A reinstated member will receive back copies of the Hydrogeology Journal for that calender year, and future products and services.

The returns for the calender year are payable by the National Chapter to the parent IAH Secretariat in the UK on 30 September 2009. This payment is based on the number of financial members at the time. A member who has not paid their fees by that date will be deemed to have resigned. This will mean that they will no longer be a member of the IAH and will not receive any further services or products.

Please advise us of any changes or alterations of your details by contacting the membership secretary

Membership Categories

Normal Member

Everyone who is a member of IAH, regardless of the country they join in, and regardless of whether they join as individuals, through a National Chapter or as part of a company corporate membership, has the same standing, voting rights and membership benefits.
Membership benefits include:

  • Hydrogeology Journal (8 times a year)
  • News and Information (3 times a year), also the general circulation IAH Groundwater eNews (6 times a year)
  • Occasional publications
  • Discount on IAH books
  • Discount on attendance at IAH Congresses and IAH organised meetings
In addition, members of IAH Australia will receive notifications of upcoming conferences and meetings, the IAH Australia newsletter and new related job offers either by email or through the IAH Australia website. The state branches also offer an opportunity to meet other IAH members and get involved in IAH activites locally.

Online Member

Online members receive exactly the same benefits as Normal members but all documentation is sent and accessed electronically. With the increasing size of the Hydrogeology Journal some members have said that they are quite satisfied with only having access to the Journal on-line and do not wish to receive and store hard copies. When the next Journal is available on-line, normally at least a month before the hard copy publication, on-line members are sent an e-mail alert. Online members retain access rights only as long as they maintain their subscription to IAH.

Student Member

Student members receive all Normal membership benefits. Members can apply as Student members for two years without proof of studentship but from then on must provide a statement from the university or college authorities to continue at the lower rate.

Online Student Member

Online Student members receive the same membership benefits as Online members. As above, they must provide proof of studentship after two years.

Retired Member

Members who retire from groundwater related employment tend to review their society memberships in the light of their reduced financial circumstances and often resign from IAH. They do this with regret because they would like to maintain a contact with the "IAH family" so from 2008 this new category has been introduced at a reduced rate. Members will receive annual reports, IAH News and Information, Groundwater eNews and would be a voting member of the Association but will not receive the Journal either by mail or have on-line access to the full papers.

Full Sponsoring Member

Full Sponsoring members receive all the benefits of a Normal membership. However, they pay an extra amount which goes towards sponsoring a hydrogeologist from a low income country. In IAH Australia, this sponsorship money is pooled and the National Chapter uses it to collectively sponsor a number of members.

Part Sponsoring Member

Part Sponsoring members pay a slightly smaller fee than Full Sponsoring members but receive all of the same benefits. This fee reflects half of the cost of sponsoring a member from a low income country.

Corporate Member

The International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH) invites companies who work in the field of groundwater and the environment to become Corporate members of the Association. Corporate membership of IAH will provide promotional opportunities for your company, give groundwater professionals on your staff the benefits of personal membership of the Association and improve the resources of IAH to carry out its mission. The base fee for Corporate membership is $790. This includes IAH membership for three staff members. An additional three members can be added for $120 per member.
