IAH QLD Social Evening & Tech Talk

Join us for our final IAH QLD tech talk of 2021 where we will hear from Sanjeev Pandey, the Executive Director at Office of Groundwater Impact Assessment (OGIA). Sanjeev is currently on a roadshow presenting the consultation draft of the fourth-generation Underground Water Impact Report (UWIR) 2021 for the Surat Cumulative Management Area in Queensland. We are fortunate to get our own presentation dedicated to IAH next Thursday. This will be a mixed in-person and online event aiming to reach as many people as possible.

Abstract: Sanjeev Pandey, Executive Director at Office of Groundwater Impact Assessment (OGIA),  is pleased to present the consultation draft of the fourth-generation Underground Water Impact Report (UWIR) 2021 for the Surat Cumulative Management Area in Queensland, Australia. It is a statutory report prepared by my independent office, the Office of Groundwater Impact Assessment (OGIA), to provide an assessment of cumulative impacts from existing and proposed groundwater extraction by the coal seam gas (CSG), conventional oil and gas and coal mining industries, and to lay out strategies for managing those impacts. The report covers the southern Bowen Basin and the entire Surat Basin in Queensland, where extensive CSG development is occurring and expanding. CSG requires the large-scale depressurisation of a target formation to release gas. There are also a number of coal mines tapping the same coal formations.
