IAH (Australian Chapter) Groundwater Industry Awards – Winners Announced

The Inaugural IAH (Australian Chapter) Groundwater Industry Awards were held on Monday 25th November during the AGC2019.

We are pleased to announce the following winners:

  • Groundwater industry excellence – Stephen Parsons and the Jacobs team, for the West Gate Tunnel Project. Jacobs led the design of groundwater recharge schemes to manage groundwater drawdown, contaminant movement and ground settlement impacts.
  • IAH groundwater innovation and technology – Dr Benjamin Birt from Qteq, for leading the introduction of Borehole Magnetic Resonance logging techniques into the Australian and global groundwater industries.
  • IAH groundwater professional – Dr Noel Merrick from Watermark Numerical Computing. Noel is a groundwater modeller, hydrogeologist and geophysicist with over 45 years of experience in groundwater science. Noel’s career highlights include: Associate Professor at UTS, a key researcher for various CRCs, a member of numerous expert panels, a long-time member of the MDB Independent Audit Group; a member of the Surat CMA Technology Advisory Panel; and contributor to the MDBC groundwater flow modelling guidelines.
  • IAH young professional – Rhona Cartwright, from KCB. Rhona is an IAH QLD branch committee member, an active Women in Mining participant and a hydrogeology educator, including primary school incursions.
  • IAH student award – Stephanie Watson, from UWA, who’s led workshops on groundwater modelling. She’s achieved an exceptionally high weighted average mark, and her Masters research project has important implications for how the Water Corporation manages groundwater resources.
  • Best groundwater photo – Angus McFarlane
