Head of Water, MMG Limited, Group Office

MMG Limited is a global base metals business listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.  We are excellently positioned for growth and play a crucial role in the transition to a sustainable future.  With operations in Australia, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Peru, and support offices in Australia, South Africa, China, and Laos, our diverse team and varied work create an exciting and rewarding environment.

Our group office has a vacancy for a global Head of Water.  This role provides enterprise-wide leadership, governance, and technical assurance for surface water and groundwater management across MMG’s global asset portfolio.  This stand-alone role owns MMG’s group water strategy, standards, assurance, and stewardship maturity.  It assures the material water risk profile, supports life-of-mine planning and water security, and enables our operations to meet operational, regulatory, sustainability, and ESG commitments.

Reporting to the General Manager, Asset Planning & Support, the activities and responsibilities of this key technical leadership position include:

  • Set enterprise-wide technical governance for hydrogeology, hydrology, water modelling, infrastructure design, and water-related studies across MMG’s asset portfolio.
  • Assure catchment-wide water balance and water quality models to support operational resilience, regulatory compliance, and life-of-mine planning.
  • Provide expert technical input, risk assessment, and opportunity analysis for water-related matters in capital projects, studies, mergers, and acquisitions.
  • Guide and assure mine water risk mitigation, predictive modelling, and alignment with regulatory, sustainability, and climate risk requirements.

To be considered, applicants must have extensive technical experiences in hydrogeology, hydrology, water modelling, infrastructure design, and water-related study experiences across mining methods and regions relevant to MMG.  Demonstrated expertise in the provision of advice, assurance and governance across multiple assets is highly regarded, together with the ability to develop and maintain relationships within operational and corporate teams.  Applicants must be qualified in either engineering, hydrogeology, hydrology, environmental science, geoscience, or a related technical discipline, and ideally have relevant postgraduate qualification (i.e. Water Resources, Hydrogeology, or Groundwater Management).

This position is preferably located in Melbourne, or an alternative location within MMG’s office footprint.  Please note that the role will require regular travel to our operations.
