International Association of Hydrogeologists Australia

Geothermal Prospecting in the Perth Basin

Wednesday 10 April, 2013
This technical seminar will discuss how hydrogeologists can initiate and encourage geothermal projects. The presentation will focus on Hot Sedimentary Aquifers and how they can be utilised for heating and cooling projects. Favourable geothermal conditions in Western Australia and the Perth region will be outlined. A case study of the recently completed Beatty Park Leisure Center will be provided, with an emphasis on engineering considerations and cost analyses. BeattyParkSmall

Speaker Biographies

Mr Martin Pujol, Project Hydrogeologist/Geothermal specialist, has 4 years consulting experience in Hot Sedimentary Aquifers in WA. He joined Rockwater following post-graduate work in France, and has written an MSc thesis on groundwater flow and heat transport in the Yarragadee aquifer. He specialises in geothermal and injection and Hot Sedimentary Aquifer resource studies including numerical modelling of groundwater flow, solute and heat transport. Mr Pujol has conducted groundwater sampling  programmes and supervised drilling, bore-construction, and testing operations including downhole geophysical surveys.

Dr Lynn Reid is a Principal Hydrogeologic Modeller with CDM Smith Australia. Prior to rejoining the consulting world, she was the team leader for Hydrothermal Modelling within the Western Australian Geothermal Centre of Excellence. WAGCOE was dedicated to leading the exploration and exploitation of geothermal heat in Western Australia.  Lynn has published several reports and journal papers on the geothermal regime in WA. She specialises in numerical modelling of hot sedimentary aquifers, mining resources, and coal seam gas.
