IAH Presentation 14th July- Hydrogeology on the Western Front

Presentation Abstract:

When we think of World War One and the infamous trench warfare on the Western Front of France & Belgium, groundwater does not generally spring to mind.  As is the case everywhere, groundwater was and still is present across the landscape where the great battles were fought between 1914-1918.   The presentation is aimed at looking at the “British” experience of hydrogeology on the Western Front and how and why that knowledge was used, and more importantly, who was responsible for using the knowledge to best advantage – Australians of course!
