Co-hosted by NSW DPE-Water
Each (normal) year IAH NSW organises a regional technical talk to coincide with the state’s Groundwater Team meeting and this year this will be held at the Carrington Hotel in Katoomba on the third Tuesday of September (20th) from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
We are excited to welcome Will Minchin, who will present “An Overview of hydrogeological conceptualisation and modelling at Dendrobium longwall mine.”
The meeting will be face-to-face at the Carrington and via Microsoft Teams. All are welcome to join us in Katoomba. A map is provided below; please get in touch if you plan to attend and we can provide more details.

Dendrobium Mine extracts coal in the Southern Coalfield of NSW. This longwall mine is located in a sensitive area with respect to water resources and ecological values. The mine operator (South32) has carried out an extensive program of investigation and analysis. An overview of the analysis of field investigations and multiple types of monitoring data is presented, and discussed in regard to the conceptual model of the effects on the groundwater system and on surface water features.
Will Minchin is a consultant hydrogeologist based on the South Coast of NSW. He has worked as a consultant since 2002, providing analysis, conceptualisation and advice to developers and government agencies for water resources, mining, civil and PFAS-related projects. Will has worked on various projects related to groundwater and surface water for Dendrobium Mine since 2014, including the recent Dendrobium Mine Extension Project EIS.
